Brother Of Astorian Dies Thursday Of Gunshot Wounds

Roy Batterton, 61, of Mardel Manor, Bartonville, was found dead at his home Thursday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Mr. Batterton had been despondent over ill health and was to have entered the hospital on Friday.

Mr. Batterton was born at Petersburg on Sept. 16, 1898, a son of Jasper and Mary Nolting Batterton. He was married to Myrtle Brainard who preceded him in death. He was then married to Lucy Kowalski in Peoria in 1929. He had been employed in the drawing department at Keystone Steel & Wire Co. for 36 years, and was a member of the 35 year club at Keystone, and the Moose Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, two daughters, two sons, two brothers, Arley Batterton of Ipava and Claude Batterton of Astoria, one sister and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Stone Mortuary in Bartonville by the Rev. Lawrence Mullinax of the LaMarsh Baptist church. Burial was in St. Joseph’s cemetery.
