GEORGE GRANVILLE BRYAN

Former Astorian Dies At Littleton Saturday, Aged 76

George Granville Bryan, son of Thomas Jefferson and Emmaline Lutz Bryan, was born near Astoria, July 27, 1854, and departed this life Saturday at his home in Littleton, where he was an honored and respected citizen for thirty-six years.

December 14, 1882, he was united in marriage with Louisa H. Davis, who with the following children mourn his departure: Ross, East Moline; Mrs. D. R. Scott, Carrie and Ferne, Chicago; Mrs. Chester Burton and Florine, Littleton, and William of Holdridge, Nebr. One son, Zay, at the age of sixteen months, preceded him in death.

His father was one of the builders of the Pleasant Ridge United Brethren church near Astoria. Geo. was brought up in this church and when young, he gave himself to Christ and remained a member of this church until his service on earth ended.

The sincerity shown by his daily life commanded the love and respect of all who knew him and made him one of the richest men of the community in friends. His was a character that the many relatives and friends can justly and proudly call ideal as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend.

Besides the widow and above named children, he leaves two brothers, Henry B. Bryan, of Smith Center, Kansas, and C. A. Bryan of Browning, Ill.; three sisters, Susan Margaret Aten of Browning; Percy Catherine Overmiller of Smith Center, Kansas and Addie Litchfield of Astoria.

Funeral services were held in the Littleton M. E. church, Monday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Albertson, the pastor, was in charge and Rev. Clarence Litchfield of Sherrard, spoke words of assurance and comfort to the friends and relatives. Burial was in Littleton cemetery.
