RICHARD WALTER BOYD

Aged Resident Passes Away

Richard W. Boyd, died at his home in this city at a little past twelve o’clock, Friday afternoon, June 25, after an illness of more than a year with cancer. For the past eight months he has been confined to his bed and his friends and acquaintances were not unprepared for the news of his death, as it was known for some time that he was in a precarious condition and that death was among the close possibilities.

Deceased was the son of John and Margaret Boyd and was born in Astoria township, May 7, 1843, being seventy-seven years, one month and eighteen days old at the time of his death. He had spent his entire life in this vicinity. Here he grew to manhood and on April 9, 1866 was married to Anna Belle English of this place who survives him. To this union one child was born, Lallah Rook, who died while in infancy. While a young man he united with the Christian church and remained a faithful member until death.

During the greater part of his life Mr. Boyd engaged in farming and was an energetic, hard working man so long as his health would permit. Through his long illness his faithful wife and many friends and relatives ministered unto him in tender sympathy and love.

Mr. Boyd knew he must soon cross the river of life and his only regret was that he must leave behind those whom he loved so much. His cordial and kindly greeting to all on their visits to his home will be long cherished.

Funeral services were held from the late home at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. L. A. Crown, pastor of the Christian church. The interment was in the Astoria cemetery.
