AMANDA (ELGIN) BOWLES

Amanda Bowles

Amanda Elgin Bowles, born Feb. 18, 1846, in Astoria township. On May 2, 1857, she was united in marriage to Jas. H. Bowles, of Vermont, Ill. To this union were born 4 boys, all of whom are living: Chas. H., of Chicago, William A., of Joliet, Samuel E., of Astoria, and Jas. E., now in school at Lombard University, Galesburg. These with the husband and father are left to mourn. For about 10 years deceased has been a sufferer. In 1865 she was converted and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church, at the Sugar Creek church about 1870. She died Sunday morning at 2:40. The funeral was held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, Rev. S. N. Wakefield officiating.
