EMANUEL R. BOYER

E. R. Boyer

Samuel Fitz received a dispatch from Chicago on Saturday last telling of the death of E. R. Boyer at his home in that city. He died of pneumonia, his illness being of very short duration. He at one time was the principal of the Astoria schools and it was he who organized the schools and placed them on a graded system which led to their present high state of efficiency. From here he went to Lewistown where he taught in the public schools, and in 1882 he was elected county superintendent of schools in Fulton county which office he held four years, and during which time he did a memorable work in the advancement of the public schools of the county. Emanuel R. Boyer was in the prime of life and until his fatal illness in the best of health. For several years he has held a high position in the public schools of Chicago, being next in authority to Supt. Andrews. Recently he resigned to take charge of the Emmons Blaine pedagogical institute at a fine salary. Mr. Boyer was also about to go to Paris in charge of Chicago educational exhibit at the exposition. He leaves a wife and four children. He was a son of Jonas Boyer, of Ipava.
