GERTRUDE A. BURLEIGH

Gertrude Burleigh

Gertrude A., youngest child of Demoine and Lizzie Burleigh, was born at Minneapolis, Minnesota, on December 4, 1886, and died at Fairbury, Nebraska, Saturday morning, 8:20 a.m., June 2, 1894, aged seven years, five months and twenty-eight days. The body was brought to Astoria, Illinois, and the funeral services were conducted at the residence of her grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. W. W. Bonnel, Monday, June 4, byy Rev. F. B. Madden. The numerous friends of the bereaved families filled the parlors with choice flowers among which were a number of beautiful pieces — a pillow with “Gertrude” in blue, a cross, an anchor and several baskets. Four girls, Grace, Stella and Eva Fckler and Dessie Robertson, of the Junior League, were the pall bearers. A quartette, consisting of Mesdames McHugh and Cruzan and Messrs Toler and Elliot, sang “Jesus loves me, this I know,” “Though in Darkness,” “Another hand is beckoning us.” The Instant class of which Gertrude was a member last summer attended and each cast a bouquet of flowers on the grave. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery.
