Melissa ArnettMelissa S. Arnett, 56, of Lewistown died at 6:10 a.m. July 21, 2011, at her home.

She was born March 23, 1955, in Canton, a daughter of Harvey Sr. and Barbara Whiteman Johnson. She married Roger L. Arnett on June 26, 1982, in Canton. He survives.

Also surviving are her mother of Lewistown; two daughters, Ashley (and Richard) Thurm and Kathryn Arnett, both of Pekin; one son, Zachary Arnett of Lewistown and his significant other Kalah Jockisch of Smithfield; four brothers, Harvey Jr. (and Mary) Johnson of Canton, Danny (and Cheryle) Johnson of Springfield, Mo., Rick (and Rhonda) Johnson and Jim Johnson, both of Lewistown; five sisters, Chris Stephens of Sherman, Ellie (and Ron) Vaughn of Lewistown, Bobi (and Woody) Moore of Canton, Melannie (and Doug) Jallas of Snicarte, Cheryle (and Larry) Nebergall of Lewistown; and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by her father.

She founded and directed Buttons and Bows Preschool in her home for nine years. Following Buttons and Bows, she attended Western Illinois University and obtained her bachelor of science degree. She went on to teach at several school districts that include Lewistown, Canton, Astoria, VIT and New Horizons. Most recently, she was a full-time elementary teacher in Astoria.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lewistown where she sang in their choir.

She was a member of Lewistown American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Lewistown VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She also was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Society.

Services were held Tuesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Danie deBeer officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.
