Patricia Abernathy

Patricia L. Abernathy, 62, of Vermont died at 12:35 a.m. June 28, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

She was born Aug. 26, 1946, in Owensboro, Ky., a daughter of Hubert and Fern Brush Wilson. She married James “Bud” Abernathy on Sept. 17, 1988, in Vermont. He survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Kim (and Rick) Kaelber of Vermont and Melissa Stroud and April Stinnett, both of Quincy; four sons, Kevin (and Jane) Cowin of Industry, Kent (and Barb) Cowin of Astoria, Bill Abernathy and Jay (and Melissa) Abernathy, both of Quincy; two sisters, Sandra Schappaugh of Forest City and Becky Schmidt of St. David; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Mike Wilson.

She was a homemaker and also worked at C & E Grocery in Vermont, was head of housekeeping at Astoria Gardens and Rehab and was an EMT with Vermont Rescue Squad.

She was a member of Crossroad Free Methodist Church in Lewistown.

Private services will be held at a later time with Sue Roat officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial will be in Vermont Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Hospital Cancer Research or the donor’s choice.
