Virgil Dwayne Azbell, 80, of Canton died at 12:05 p.m. March 12, 2008, at Graham Hospital extended care in Canton.

He was born Sept. 12, 1927, in Bernadotte Township, Ipava, a son of John K. and Eva Leta Braden Azbell. He married Sherry J. Leeds on Oct. 8, 1950, in Canton. She died Dec. 7, 2007.

He also was preceded in death by one brother, Merlin D. Azbell.

Surviving are one sister, Shirley Moore of Mesa, Ariz; and one brother, Phillip Azbell of Mesa, Ariz.

He was in the U.S. Army Medical Corps stationed in Japan and Washington, D.C., and a member of American Legion Post #644.

He was a farmer in the area for over 50 years.

He was a member of Cuba Fiatt Fire Department for over 30 years.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Canton, Fulton County Farm Bureau and Fairview Fin and Feather Club.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton with Rev. Julie/Randy Azbell officiating. A funeral lunch will be held following at Fiatt Independant Christian Church. There will be no visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded. Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Fulton County, 700 E. Oak St., Canton, IL 61520, American Cancer Society to be used in the Canton office or charity of the donor’s choice.
