Sydney Maria Louise Avery, 5, of Astoria died at 6:15 a.m. July 14, 2006, in Havana.

She was born April 5, 2001, in Canton, a daughter of Edward Rilea and Heather Avery.

Surviving are her mother, Heather (and Curtis) Peters of Astoria; her father, Edward (and Elizabeth) Rilea of Havana; one brother, Edward Rilea of Havana; four sisters, Megan Rilea, Christina Rilea and Tessa Rilea, all of Havana, and Mary Jane Avery-Ketterman of Astoria; maternal grandmother, Judith (and Robert) Preston of Galesburg; maternal grandfather, William D. Avery II of Canton; paternal grandparents, Jim and Sally Rilea of Havana; and maternal great-grandmother, Wanda L. Ziegenhorn of Lewistown.

She was preceded in death by one maternal great-grandfather, Vernon Charles Ziegenhorn; maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Preston; and paternal great-grandparents, Mary and Ernest Smith and William and Katherine Rilea.

She attended Astoria Christian Church and the Head Start Program in Cuba.

Services were held Tuesday at her church with Gary Sheets officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded. Shawgo Memorial Home was in charge of arrangements.
