FIONE (SHUGHART) ABATTE

Fione Abatte

Fione Abatte, 86, of Macomb, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 1995, at McDonough District Hospital.

She was born Dec. 29, 1908, in Phelps, the daughter of Harry E. and Susie Downer Shughart. She married Maurie A. Abatte on July 28, 1951, in Piggot, Ark. He died June 8, 1986. Three brothers also preceded her in death.

Surviving are one nephew, Jerry Shughart of Colchester; and seven nieces, Vivian Hottle of Monmouth, Betty Smith of Galesburg, Fayanne Hottle of Kankakee, Lynette Hickle of Astoria, Annette Sullivan of Peoria, Denice Monical of Antioch and Bunny Jahanke of Cary.

A graduate of Gem City Business College, she owned and operated Liberal Loan Co. and A&A Collection Agency in Macomb. She served as Emmet Township Assessor from 1971 to 1985 and served on the Emmet Township Board since 1986. She was a member of Macomb American Legion Auxiliary and the American Association of Retired Persons. She was a former member of Township Officials of Illinois and the Macomb Women’s Bowling Association.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home with Rev. James Crewe officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program or to the Emmet-Chalmers Fire Protection District.
