VeteranPhilip Allen Sr. Of Rushville Dies

Philip H. Allen, Sr., 88, of 813 E. Adams St., Rushville, died at 5:25 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 1990 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 27, 1902, in Jackson County, a son of Ed and Mae Glotfelty Allen. He married Minnie L. Billington in Metropolis on May 30, 1924.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Henry (Maralyn) Debo of Yellville, Ark.; one son, Philip H. Jr. of Rushville; seven grandchildren; and three sisters, Daisy Lirely of Murphysboro, Mary McIntyre of Portland, Ore. and Bonnie Savrot of Nashville, Tenn.

Two brothers preceded him in death.

He opened a Western Auto Store in Rushville after moving there in 1940. He was a former resident of Nashville, Ill., where he was a high school coach for six years.

A graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, he was a member of the National Guard Carbondale Unit, and a mathematics teacher and coach at Rushville High School. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Retired Teachers Association.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Roby Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roy Adams officiating. Burial was in Rushville Cemetery.
