Christena Akers Dies At Age 90

Christena AkersMrs. Christena Josephine Heinecke Akers of Roseville, Ill. died at 9:23 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 1990 at her residence.

She was born May 2, 1900 in Walker Township, Tioga, Ill., a daughter of Henry and Josephine (Mund) Heinecke. She was married to Clarence I. Akers on August 29, 1925. He died on Sept. 6, 1979.

Survivors include two sons, Wendell of Tucson, Ariz. and Dr. Rev. Junior Akers on Avon; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Hill of Tucson, Ariz. and Mrs. Hazel Bowman of Quincy; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Carl Heinecke of Camp Point.

She was preceded in death by three children, Wayne, Glen, and Dale; one sister, Louise Altheride and one great-grandson.

Mrs. Akers loved the church and its music, longed for the sacred word, and was an organist, pianist and vocalist. She lived in Hancock and Adams counties before moving to Roseville in 1952. She had been cared for over the past 11 years by her son Junior in her home.

She was baptized on June 3, 1900 at Bethany Evangelical Church, Tioga and was confirmed on Apr. 5, 1914. She became a member of Roseville Christian Church on Feb. 28, 1953.

Rev. Junior Akers was a former pastor at the Astoria E.U.B. Church.

Funeral services were held on June 3, 1990 at her church with Rev. Tom Mehaffy officiating. Burial was in Roseville Memorial Park.
