Soldier’s Body Arrives; Military Funeral Sunday

The body of Milo V. Aten, son of Mrs. Ellen Aten of Pleasant township was buried last Sunday at Astoria with military honors.

Private Milo Vernon Aten was born May 30th, 1896, in Pleasant township, Fulton county. Here he grew to manhood with his parents on the farm.

On June 23rd 1918 he was called for service in the U.S. Army and later was placed in Co. C. 324 Machine Gun Battalion. He arrived over seas about Oct. 26th, 1918.

While receiving his last weeks training he was taken ill with bronchial pneumonia at base hospital No. 27. He died Dec. 8th, 1918 and was buried the following day at the American hospital, Angus Frances. At the time of his death he was 22 years, 6 months and 8 days old.

Those who mourn his loss are his mother, Mrs. Ellen Aten, one brother both of Pleasant township and other relatives and many friends. He lived a clean, useful life and was kind hearted and generous to all who knew him. He could have escaped military service had he so desired, but he answered the call of his country and paid the great price.

The funeral was held in the Astoria park Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, conducted by Rev. L. A. Crown, pastor of the Christian church.

The American Legion Posts of Astoria and Summum were in charge of military services. The Astoria band furnished appropriate music for the occasion. Burial was made in the Astoria cemetery.
