He was born March 26, 1931, in Oakland Township, Schuyler County, a son of Ralph and Bertha France Young. He married Susan Mitchell in Rock Island. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert (and Debra) Young Jr. and Steven (and Janet) Young; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and Max Young.
He was a lifelong farmer.
He was a member of Vermont Christian Church, LaMoine Valley Amateur Radio Club and Vermont Bowling Association.
Cremation has been accorded. Family inurnment services will be held at a later date at Vermont Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
