William YoungWilliam Allen Young, 60, of Kingman, Ariz., formerly of Rushville, died at 2:30 a.m. April 6, 2008, at Kingman Regional Medical Center in Kingman.

He was born September 15, 1947, in Beardstown, a son of Harold Joseph and Marjorie June Dean Young. He married Shirley Ruth Mathre on May 2, 1969, in Montclair, Calif. She died Jan. 14, 1983. He later married Janet Lee Slider on Aug. 2, 1997, in Lansing, Mich. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Marjorie Howell of Rushville; three sons, William Allen Jr. of Rushville, Walter Harold (and Michelle) and Robert of Greene, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, and stepmother, Fern Young.

He attended Washington and Fey grade schools. He graduated from Montclair California High School in 1961. He attended Greenville College in Greenville, and graduated in 1973 with a teaching degree in history.

He was a sergeant first-class in the U.S. Army, serving one tour in Germany and two in Korea. He retired with 21 years of service in 1994. After retiring, he was a substitute teacher in Rushville, Mount Sterling, Beardstown and Ashland schools before moving to Kingman, Ariz. in 1995.

He was a member of Schuyler American Legion Post #4.

Graveside services were held Monday at Rushville City Cemetery with Rev. John Glennon officiating. Military services were conducted by U.S. Army Honor Guard and Schuyler American Legion Post #4. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to Rushville Free Methodist Church or the donor’s choice.
