VIRGINIA LOUISE (BORING) WOOD

Virginia Wood

Virginia Louise Boring Wood, 96, of Havana died at her home early Nov. 9, 2009.

She married Dr. Oliver Marshall Wood of Ipava. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are her son, Joseph Carl Wood (Kim Lenox Wood); one daughter, Sarah Louise Wood; and four grandchildren.

She went to Illinois College where she served as the first homecoming queen in 1933. After graduating in 1934, she taught school for several years, and later in life held adult art classes at VIT and Ipava. In 1982, Illinois College presented her with an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters in recognition of her service to the college.

She was a member of Vermont Chapter of PEO (a philanthropic organization) where she was active for many years.

She established a student scholarship fund at Spoon River College and the family asks memorials be directed to Spoon River College, 45 East Side Square, Suite 302, Canton IL, 61520, in care of the “Louise Wood Scholarship Fund”. Hurley Funeral Home in Havana was in charge of arrangements.

Services were held Saturday at Sheridan Lane, formerly The Lakewood) in Havana.
