Doyle WilliamsonDoyle R. “Slim” Williamson, 95, of Astoria died at 9:15 a.m. March 27, 2008, at Astoria Gardens and Rehab Center.

He was born July 17, 1912, in Blyton, a son of Elza and Edie Elizabeth Myers Williamson. He married Berniece Bollinger on March 7, 1936, in Lewistown. She died Oct. 15, 2001.

He also was preceded in death by one son, Gary Williamson; one daughter, Marilyn Fosdyck; eight sisters; and two brothers.

Surviving are two sons, Dwayne (and Carol) Williamson of Wooster, Ohio, and Michael (and Wilma) Williamson of Milan; one daughter, Maxine Bucher of Astoria; two sisters, Pearl (and Edwin) Smith and Loretta “Tootie” Smith, both of Rock Island; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several step grandchildren.

He built railroads near Farmington, farmed and built homes in Canton and was a foreman for AMAX Coal Company until his retirement in 1973.

He was a UMWA member.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Kevin Kessler officiating. Burial was in Bushnell Cemetery.
