James Sidney Ward, 74, of Astoria, formerly of Wyoming/Princeville area, died at 4 a.m. Feb. 9, 2008, at his home.

He was born in 1933 in Alabama, a son of John C. and Hettie Ward. He married Linda K. Selberg on Nov. 1, 1997, in Wyoming. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Richard (and Oryana) Ward of Slocomb, Ala.; 13 daughters, Carla (and Joe) Dunbar and Angela (and Frank) Mercer, both of Wyoming, Renee Nicholls of Fonthill, Ontario Canada, Octavia “Missy” (and Ron) Saal of Princeville, Kathy McCollough of Geneseo, Tammy Rhoades of Ocoee, Fla., Sonya “Lisa” Carter of Winter Garden, Fla., Pamela (and Dale) Adkison of Elba, Ala., Patricia Douglas of Apopka, Fla., Becky (and Randy) Berks of Trenton, Mo., Stephanie (and Dean) Southerd and Lorraine (and Donnie) Southerd, both of Astoria and Jocelyn (and Gary) Fisher of Camden, S.C.; two brothers, Frank Trant of Graceville, Fla., and Jack Ward of Elba, Ala.; 46 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

He served in the U.S. Navy and in the Korean War.

He was a mechanic for many years and worked building houses for several years after retirement.

He was a member of Lewistown Church of the Nazarene and attended Wyoming Church of the Nazarene prior to that.

Services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Wyoming 1st Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Kirk Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the church. Cremation rights will be accorded following services. Wyoming Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
