Lillian Vaughn

Lillian L. Vaughn, 85, of Astoria, formerly of Ipava and Lewistown, died at 9:55 a.m. July 16, 2009, at Astoria Gardens & Rehab Center.

She was born April 3, 1924, in Pekin, a daughter of Carl and Fern Palmer Sexton. She married Marshall Arkie Vaughn on June 30, 1943, in Kahoka, Mo. He died June 13, 1989.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny and Dillard Sexton; and three sisters, Sylvia Secton, Vivian Putman and Agnes Fair.

Surviving are one son, Marvin R. (and Linda) Vaughn of Havana; one daughter, Sharon E. (and Gary) Thurman of Paris, Mo.; two sisters, Vera (and John) Henry of Lewistown and Betty Rose of Edinburgh; one brother, Carl E. “Ike” Sexton of Kendersonville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Vermont High School in 1942 and worked in the business office at Camp Ellis and also the Rock Island Arsonal, and Velma’s Market in Ipava for many years until retirement.

She was a member of Illinois Street Christian Church of Lewistown.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava with Ray Greenfield officiating. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery.
