Dorothy TomlinsonDorothy “Dottie” Tomlinson, 72, of Rushville died at 11:20 a.m. March 13, 2009, at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

She was born Nov. 8, 1936, in Knott, Texas, a daughter of Finis and Kitty Hilliard Cockrell. She married Donald “Pops” Tomlinson on Dec. 14, 1975, in Las Vegas. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2001.

She also was preceded in death by one brother, William Cockrell; and three sisters, Sandra Johnston, Ruth Beene and Louise Freidrich.

Surviving are three sons, Richard Stephens, Eric (and Maria) Stephens and Darrell Stephens, all of King City, Calif.; one daughter, Brenda (and Mike) Billingsley of Rushville; one stepson, Gene Tomlinson of Santa Rosa, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Rebecca (and Gene) Del Coco of Stroudsburg, Pa.; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker and worked for a time as a waitress. She retired from the housekeeping department at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville in 1991 after 14 years of service.

She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Rushville.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2009, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Rev. Mike Hall officiating. There will be no visitation. Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
