Ronald ThompsonRonald H. Thompson, 70, of Rushville died at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 29, 2008, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Oct. 20, 1937, in Rushville, the son of Martin E. and Lenora Horney Thompson. He married Gayleen Melvin on Aug. 19, 1961, in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Marty (and Debbie) Thompson of Rushville; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one aunt, Alleyne Horney, who raised him.

He served in the U.S. Navy from Feb. 21, 1957, to Feb. 20, 1961, and was employed as an industrial electrician last working for AMAX Coal Co., retiring in 1996.

He was a member of Littleton United Methodist Church; Rushville Moose Lodge #506; United Mine Workers of America; and was a past member of Naples Boat Club in Meredosia.

Services were held Tuesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Dixie Croxton officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery where military services were conducted by U.S. Navy Honor Guard and Schuyler American Legion Post #4.

Memorials may be given to his church or Rushville-Industry Athletics.
