Roger Siler, 81, of Champaign died at 12:30 p.m. April 15, 2009, at Heartland Healthcare Center in Champaign.

He was born Aug. 23, 1927, in rural Ipava, a son of Claude and Mabel Weese Siler. He married Redeana Tabaka on Jan. 6, 1961, in Ivesdale. She survives.

Also surviving are two children, Kenneth Siler of Allerton and Jodi Pease of Mansfield; one sister, Margaret Kessler of Peoria; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Bob Siler; and two sisters, Donna McPeak and Norma Davis.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his military service, he worked at Illinois Bell Telephone Company for 35 years, earning retirement in 1982.

In his retirement years, he drove a school bus for Urbana and Thomasboro schools.

He was a member of American Legion Post 24, Voiture Local 238 of the 40&8 and Retired Telephone Pioneers.

Graveside services were held April 18 at Mount Hope Mausoleum in Champaign with Rev. Lutz Braunig officiating. Military rites were conducted by VFW Post 5520. Owens Funeral Home in Champaign was in charge of arrangements.
