Doris ShaverDoris R. Shaver, 91, of Rushville died at 9:15 a.m. March 2, 2009, at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

She was born May 8, 1917, in Camp Point, a daughter of Arthur and Blanche Hendrickson Adams. She married Francis E. “Son” Shaver on Nov. 3, 1938, in Holiday, Mo. He preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Robert Shaver; and one sister, Alice Stothfang.

Surviving are one daughter, Barbara (and Rod) Schoonover of Rushville; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

A 1935 graduate of Camp Point Community High School, she attended beauty school in Quincy. She was a beautician for 47 years, retiring in February, 1981.

She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rushville; a 50-year member of Royal Neighbors of America; and Adelaide Rebekah’s Lodge. She also was a volunteer with Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at her church with Rev. John Sowers officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville.

Memorials may be made to her church, Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home or Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
