Elva Swearingen

Elva SwearingenElva Swearingen, 94, of Rushville, died at 9:55 a.m. Feb. 22, 2008, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

She was born Dec. 7, 1913, in Browning, a daughter of James Agustus and Edith Louella Griffith Long. She married Sterling James Swearingen in 1935 in Rushville. He died Nov. 21, 1989.

She also was preceded in death by one grandson, Steven Manchester; and three sisters, Evelyn Bartlow, Melba Beck and Edith Henninger.

Surviving are one son, Charles J. (and Jenell) Swearingen of Rushville; two daughters, Kaye (and Dan) Gayton of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Lou Ann (and Ronald) Panning of Huntley; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Rushville First United Methodist Church and served as church secretary for many years. She was a founding member of Schuyler Senior Center.

Private services will be held.
