Lois Smith

Lois SmithLois M. Smith, 86, of Cuba died at 5:15 a.m. Nov. 3, 2007, at Clayberg Nursing Home.

She was born Sept. 27, 1921, in Peoria, a daughter of Delbert and Clara Azbell White. She married Marlin C. Smith on Feb. 8, 1944, in Norfolk, Va. He died March 19, 1990.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Kay Nolan; seven brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are two sons, Delbert “Butch” (and Jennifer “Sam”) Smith and Eugene “Hemer” (and Rose) Smith, both of Cuba; one sister, Novella Niecekowski of Marietta; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She retired from Illinois Department of Public Aid, and had also worked for Illinois Bell, Day & Palin and Tempo.

She was a member of Cuba Christian Church, Modern Woodmen of America, Fraternal Order of Eagles and AFSME Retirees #31.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at her church with Rev. Amy Wharton officiating. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery.
