Earl Smith

Earl SmithEarl E. Smith, 95, of Lewistown died at 3:40 p.m. Oct. 27, 2007, at Astoria Gardens & Rehab Center.

He was born March 27, 1912, in rural Lewistown, the son of George Edward and Eliza Estella Hamm Smith. He married Vera C. Breckenridge on Oct. 23, 1940, in Burlington, Iowa. She died Jan. 9, 1981.

He also was preceded in death by one grandchild, four brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are three sons, Roscoe “Ed” (and Carol) Smith and David E. (and Dorothy) Smith, both of Lewistown and Larry D. (and Linda) Smith of New Palestine, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was a lifelong farmer.

He attended Lewistown Church of the Nazarene.

He was a lifetime member of Lewistown Odd Fellows Lodge where he was a past Noble Grand; Lewistown Rebecca Lodge; Lewistown Saddle Club, which he participated in many rides and shows; and past board member of the original Coachman Car Club.

During his early years he had helped build the paved road between Lewistown and Astoria with a team of horses.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. Bob Hale and Pastor Randy Munson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.

Memorials may be made to his church or Lewistown Rescue Squad.
