Violet Shields

Violet I. Shields, 91, of Sparta, formerly of Lewistown, died at 7:05 a.m. May 1, 2007, at Sparta Community Hospital.

She was born Oct. 30, 1915, in Lewistown, a daughter of Edward and Samantha Hensley Bricker. She married Edward H. Shields on Dec. 31, 1932, in Springfield. He died Dec. 16, 1998.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters.

Surviving are two sons, John (and Billie) of Sparta and Larry (and Po) of Lacey, Wash.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She worked at the Fulton County Courthouse and as a secretary at Lewistown High School.

She was a member of Lewistown United Methodist Church.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with Rev. Bill Bunnage officiating. There will be no visitation. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is in charge of arrangements.
