George H. Stambaugh, Well Known Resident Dies

George StambaughGeorge H. Stambaugh of Astoria, passed away Friday at the St. Francis hospital in Peoria, where he had been admitted Tuesday following a heart attack.

He was born near Astoria Jan. 23, 1877, a son of Michael and Sarah (Bair) Stambaugh. He was married Feb. 5, 1899 to Leah Bucher, who preceded him in death Oct. 12, 1903. On June 19, 1904, he was married to Fannie Bucher, who survives. In June they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary.

Also surviving are a son, Mark Stambaugh of Ipava; eight daughters, Mrs. Clara Klinedinst of Ipava; Mrs. Beula Kettering of Ashland, Ohio, Mrs. Verna Duke of Richmond, Ind., Mrs. Esther Kessler and Mrs. Mabel Bowman, both of Astoria; Mrs. Naomi Saffin of Greenville, Ohio, Mrs. Faith Blair of London, Ohio, and Mrs. Georgia Lee Page of Cambridge, Ill.; 33 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Ziegler and Mrs. Maggie Walraven of Huron, S. Dak., and two brothers, Frank Stambaugh of Wellington, Kansas, and Ralph Stambaugh of Astoria. Three sons and a daughter preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Woodland Church of the Brethren, where he was a member. He was also a Deacon in the church and taught a Sunday school class for many years.

The services was in charge of the pastor, Rev. Walter Young, assisted by Rev. Clinton Kessler. Music was by the Johnson-Moyer quartet.

The large attendance at the service speaks for itself as to the high esteem and respect which he was held in his community.

Burial was in the Woodland cemetery.
