Rex Richards

Rex RichardsRex E. Richards, 66, of Plymouth, formerly of Greenwood, Ind., died at 1:10 a.m. Sept. 15, 2009, at his home.

He was born Oct. 21, 1942, in Marion County, Ind., a son of H. Spencer “Penny” and Nola M. Smithey Richards Jr. He married Sheila K. Surface on Aug. 18, 1961, in Greenwood. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Gregory S. (and Alicia nee McKinney) Richards of Colchester; one daughter, Amy S. (and Brian) Kiefer of Greenwood; one brother, Robin (and Marianna) Richards of Indianapolis; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one infant son, Todd D. Richards; his parents; stepmother, Helen V. Curts Baurle Richards; and one brother, Ronald Richards.

He was a 1960 graduate of Center Grove High School and attended Franklin College. He farmed on the family farm from 1960-96, at that time he moved with his family to Plymouth where he continued to farm with his son until his death.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Beardstown and a former member of Mount Pleasant Christian Church in Greenwood, where he served as a deacon and trustee. He served on the White River Township Advisory Board and White River Township Fire Department Board.

Services were held Thursday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Mike Courson and Rev. Spencer Tuttle officiating. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood.
