Eugene RagleEugene B. Ragle, 86, of Astoria died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, at his home.

He was born March 21, 1919, in Murphysboro, a son of John B. and Ruby Blankenship Ragle. He married Margaret Marshall in Murphysboro. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Randy (and Janice) of Astoria; two daughters, Vicky (and Mark) Leinweber of Mason City and Nancy (and Brad) Stortzum of Crystal Lake; one brother, Carl (and Mae) of Tamms; one sister, Virginia (and Russ) Grantham of New Smyrna Beach, Fla; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving as sergeant in Company H of the 160 Infantry. He received three Bronze Battle Stars and a Good Conduct Medal.

He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 30 years and was a member of UAW Local 974.

Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor David Meyer officiating. Burial was in Summum Cemetery.
