Delilah PayneDelilah S. Payne, 103, of Rushville, died at 10:38 p.m. May 20, 2010, at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing in Rushville.

She was born Sept. 24, 1906, in Hannah, N.D., a daughter of George and Leota Ambrosius Gabbert. She married Ralph Payne on May 14, 1927, in Rushville. He preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1978.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Dewayne and Kenneth Gabbert; and two sisters, Ruby Clayton and Beulah Richardson.

Surviving are two sons, Ralph Jr. (and Georgia) Payne of Woodstock and George (and Marian) Payne of Rushville; two daughters Wilma (and Richard G.) Schenk and Alice Marie (and Eber) Trinkle, all of Rushville; 12 grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was a school teacher at Oakwood School in Buena Vista Township for two years. She also was a homemaker and helped with the family farm.

She attended Free Methodist Church in Rushville.

Services were held Monday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Revs. Rob Kirkham and John E. Sowers officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
