James PetermanJames H. “Jim” Peterman, 51, of Ipava died at 3:23 p.m. May 20, 2009, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Sept. 25, 1957, in Rushville, a son of Elmer C. and Catherine Beaty Peterman. He married Cindy Myers on Nov. 9, 2006, in Lewistown. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Jenny (and Joe) Hayes of Astoria and Jessie Peterman of Macomb; three stepdaughters, Kathy (and Marcus) Beaty and Brandy (and Mike) Maxwell, both of Cuba and Heather (and Tony) Martinez of Gillette, Wyo.; one stepson, David Gossage of Havana; two brothers, Ben (and Becky) Peterman of Pearl, Miss., and George Peterman of Summum; one sister, Cathy Sue Summers of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepdaughter, Jennifer Gossage; and one infant brother, John.

He worked for Astoria Ready Mix, drove semis for various companies and last worked for J.C. Contracting in Ipava.

He was the former fire chief for Astoria Fire Department.

He was a member of Sons of the American Legion Post 25 in Astoria and Sons of the American Legion Post 17 in Ipava, holding various offices and was current commander of SAL in Ipava.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held immediately following the visitation at Ipava American Legion.
