Clifford PetersonClifford O. Peterson, 86, of rural Lewistown died at 3:20 a.m. Sept. 9, 2007, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born April 28, 1921, in Van Hook, N.D., a son of Nels and Inga Devold Peterson. He married Virginia Ogden on Dec. 27, 1957, in Lewistown. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Kevin Peterson of Mong Mong, Guam; one daughter, Deborah (and Mike) Davis of Munfordville, Ky.; one brother, Ellsworth Peterson of Eugene, Ore.; three sisters, Irene (and Harold) Ellingson of Dexter, Ore., Anna Jacobs of Stanley, N.D., and Leola Hartstrom of Sacramento, Calif.; four step-grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Norman Peterson.

He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, serving in Europe.

He taught school for 19 years in North Dakota, Elgin and Astoria. He later worked 11 years as a lab technician for International Harvestor in Canton before retiring in 1983.

He attended Waterford Union Church, where he taught Sunday school. He was a member of Lewistown Church of the Nazarene and Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1.

He served many years as Waterford Township supervisor and was an election judge. He also was a caretaker for Waterford Cemetery for many years.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lewistown Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Randy Munson and Pastor Ithel Kenser officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. Burial will be in Waterford Cemetery in rural Lewistown with military rites conducted by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and American Legion Bishop Post 1.
