JEANNE (LUNCSFORD) PENNINGER

Jeanne Penninger

Jeanne Penninger, 79, of Havana died at 3 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2003, at her daughter's home in Dewey.

She was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Edwardsville, the daughter of Ivan and Pauline Tharp Luncsford. She was adopted by her great-uncle and great-aunt, Hugo E. and Ellen Broderick Lange. She married Lynn Penninger on Jan. 28, 1972, in Decatur. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Judith (and Roger) Cairns Gilbertson of Yokota, Japan, and Carolyn (and Bud) Wheatley Allen of Dewey; one son, Kenneth (and Rita) Wheatley Bartels of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She had been a school bus driver for Havana School District and previously was the first female sheriff's deputy in Champaign County.

She was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6409 Ladies Auxiliary in Havana.

Cremation has been accorded. There were no services or visitation. Burial of ashes was in Mount Gilead Cemetery in Decatur. Woolsey Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
