John OrwigJohn C. Orwig, 89, of Beardstown died Aug. 9. 2007, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born July 28, 1918, in Frederick Township, Schuyler County, the son of Charles W. and Grace Zeigler Orwig. He married Carol Jean Kruse on June 25, 1976, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Charles A. (and Geraldine) Orwig of Springfield; one stepson, Terry (and Barb) Bast of Atlanta; four stepdaughters, Debbie Smith (and companion Sam Nation) of Bath, Gail (and William) Riggins of Pleasant Plains, Kathi Armstrong of Ashland and Jackie (and Michael) Blakeman of Wichita Falls, Texas; two great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He attended school in Browning and graduated from Beardstown High School in 1936.

He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Beardstown and worked for Illinois Bell in Beardstown, retiring as a central office technician in 1981.

Graveside services were held Tuesday at Browning Cemetery with Rev. Albert Smith officiating. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.
