Albert “Al” Nelson, 74, of Cuba died at 2:21 p.m. July 9, 2007, at Graham Hospital extended care in Canton.
He was born Feb. 25, 1933, in DuQuoin, a son of Roscoe and Jeanie Kerr Nelson. He married Ardith Zimmerman on June 30, 1953, in Smithfield. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Deena (and Todd) Sepich of St. David; one sister, Marilyn (and Dean) Hall of Cuba; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
He graduated from Cuba High School and barber college.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War.
He retired from Freeman United Coal Co. in Virden. He also worked as a barber, and as a car salesman at the former Black Chevrolet in Lewistown.
He attended Cuba United Methodist Church and was a member of Cuba American Legion and Cuba Masonic Lodge.
Cremation will be accorded. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at his church with Rev. Paul Newhall officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Inurnment will be in Cuba Cemetery with military rites conducted by his American Legion Post. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba is in charge of arrangements.
