John Nelson Jr.

John Nelson Jr., 71, of Osage Beach, Mo., died at 12:28 p.m. July 10, 2006, in Galesburg.

He was born Feb. 14, 1935, in Norris, a son of John and Verna Cannon Nelson. He married Virginia Clanin Hawkins on Aug. 27, 1964, in Canton. She survives.

Also surviving are one stepson, Norman (and Connie) Hawkins of Osage Beach, Mo.; one sister, Isabelle (and William) Jones of Creve Coeur; two step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

He was a Navy veteran, serving from 1955-1957.

He was a truck driver for 33 years.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Ipava Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Kessler officiating. There will be no visitation. Military rites will be accorded by Ipava American Legion Post #17. Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to The Humane Society of Fulton County.
