Virgil L. Maines, 86, of Macomb died at 10:15 a.m. May 22, 2009, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
He was born April 26, 1923, in Bunch, Iowa, a son of Clay and Chloe Maines. He married Ada John on May 8, 1948, in South Sioux City, Neb. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Steven G. Maines of Dixon; two daughters, Marsha Malburg of Polo and Deborah (and Robert) Ottwell of Beardstown; one brother, John (and Bonnie) Maines of Ottumwa, Iowa; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son-in-law, one brother and one sister.
He served in the US Army during World War II.
He was an agent-operator for the railroad for 32 years, retiring in 1982.
He was a life member of VFW.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Kost Memorial Home in Vermont. There will be no services.
