Ervin “Cocky” Murk

Ervin MurkErvin L. “Cocky” Murk, 97, of Pleasant View died at 12:45 a.m. June 24, 2008, at his home.

He was born July 5, 1910, a son of Arthur and Grace Brekenmaker Murk. He married Gladys Nelson on Jan. 11, 1941, in Palmyra, Mo. She died Aug. 30, 1994.
He also was preceded in death by one brother, Russell Murk; and two sisters, Dorothy Murk and Lucille Bramhall.

Surviving are one son, Ronnie (and Susan) Murk of Pleasant View; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was an underground coal miner in the Pleasant View area for many years. He also worked as a farm hand before purchasing his own farm. For many years, he raised Shetland Ponies and later horses.

He was baptized in the Methodist faith and was a member of Schuyler Farm Bureau, National Rifle Association and Rushville Moose Lodge #506.

Services were held Friday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. John Sowers officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
