Violet MendenhallViolet M. “Vi” Divan Mendenhall, 78, of Rushville, formerly of Danville, died at 1:50 p.m. Dec. 26, 2007, at Culbertson Long Term Care in Rushville.

She was born March 28, 1929, in Catlin Township, Vermillion County, the daughter of J. Clifford and Pearle E. Combs Gillen. She married Harold F. Divan on Aug. 16, 1947, in Henderson, Ky. He died July 31, 1956. She later married L. Gordon “Jake” Mendenhall on July 10, 1970, in Ogden. He died May 7, 1997.

She also was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth “Bud” Gillen.

Surviving are three sons, Mick (and Judy) Divan of Danville, Bob (and Kay) Divan of Rushville and Randy (and Sue) Divan of Normal; one daughter, Judy (and Terry) Lazzell of Rushville; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She graduated from the House of James Beauty School in Danville in 1957, then opened a beauty shop in her home which she operated until she moved to Rushville in 1970.

She volunteered at the HELP Center in Rushville.

She was a member of Lone Oak Church of Christ in Danville and attended First United Methodist Church in Rushville.

Services were held Monday at Sunset Funeral Chapel in Danville with Rev. Jim Russell officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.
