Ruth LoringRuth Jean Loring, 98, died April 13, 2013.

She was born Jan. 18, 1915, a daughter of Chalmer and Jean Prunty Moore in Brown County, near Clayton. She married Raymond Loring on Sept. 1, 1937, in Ft. Madison, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2002.

She also was preceded in death by six siblings, Helen Fetch, Myrtle Peterson, Bud, Bill, Bob and Joe Moore.

Surviving are two daughters, Jane (and Merlin) Southerlan of Rushville and Myrna (and John) Welch of Sarasota, Fla.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

As a child, she moved with her family to the Kniss farm near Camden and attended Nebo School. From sixth to eighth grade, she cleaned the school for a quarter per week. In her late teens, she began to do housework for farm families.

When she and Ray married, they settled in Camden for their entire lives.

She was a member of Camden Methodist Church.

Her industrious habits continued throughout her life, either running a strawberry-picking business, working for Camden School lunchroom or helping her husband at Camden Pool Hall. Her favorite "career" was the two-year stint as Rural Route 1 mail carrier while Ray was in the Army during World War II.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend Dixie Croxton officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery.
