Wayne Lam Sr.Wayne E. Lam Sr., 77, of Smithshire died at 10:35 a.m. Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg.

He was born Nov. 15, 1928, in Fulton County, a son of Cleveland and Lizzie Bucher Lam. He married June Anders on July 24, 1954, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Wayne Jr. (and Jacqueline) of Monmouth; two daughters, Sherrie (and Randy) Gray of St. Charles, Iowa, and Julie (and Charles Jr.) McLaughlin of Smithshire; two sisters, Bessie (and John) Stauffer of Trotwood, Ohio, and Velma (and Clyne) Ritchie of Gaston, Ind.; one brother, Robert (and Erma) of Springville, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Della Groff and Nellie White; and one great-grandchild.

He was a 1946 graduate of Astoria High School.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He farmed all his life, first in Fulton County, moving to the Smithshire area in 1960.

He had served on the board of directors for the Warren County Farm Bureau and Stockland Farm Service. He was a member of the Illinois State Soybean Boosters and had served as Ellison Township clerk for several years.

He was raised in the Church of the Brethren and was a member of the Media Community Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon and trustee.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at his church with Pam Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Ellison Cemetery near Smithshire. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral home in Stronghurst, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.
