William J. "Bill" Jackson, 68, of Smithfield, formerly of Lewistown, died at 2 a.m. Sunday, July 25, 2004, at his home.

He was born Nov. 25, 1935, in New Salem, a son of Grant and Helen Moore Jackson. He married Betty Mayfield on April 21, 1956, in Mount Sterling. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, William (and Pam) of Chipley, Fla.; three daughters, Kim (and Bud) Kellum of Smithfield, Kathi (and Ron) Lillie of Colchester and Karen (and David) Danner of Ipava; two sisters, Carolyn Dickson of New Salem and Trudy Reel of St. Joseph, Mo.; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

He was a Korean War Marine Corps veteran.

He worked for Caterpillar Inc. at the East Peoria and Mapleton plants, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 974.

Graveside services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Mount Sterling Catholic Cemetery in Mount Sterling with Rev. Robert O'Connor officiating. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
