Paul J. "Doc" Johnston, 73, of Macomb died at 4:52 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at McDonough District Hospital.

He was born Feb. 8, 1928, in Nauvoo, a son of Harley and Corinne Laubersheimer Johnston. He married Jane A. Coker on Dec. 20, 1948, in Industry. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Gregory (and Linda) of Petersburg and Michael of Lincoln; two daughters, Pamela (and Joe) Heaton of Vermont, and Renee (and Bill) Lotz of Macomb; one brother, John of Pensacola, Fla.; four sisters, Marge Daniels of Macomb, Patricia Klein of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Marilyn Robertson of Pueblo, Colo., and Marlene (and Frank) Oehlberg of Park Hills, Ky.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

One son, Paul, and two brothers preceded him in death.

He had been a farmer. He also had been the street superintendent in Macomb for many years before retiring in 1992.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service was held Saturday at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Rev. Alan Puccini officiating. Private burial of ashes will be at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
