Marjorie HoodMarjorie Mae Hood, 91, of Rushville died at 1:45 a.m. Sept. 17, 2014, at Heritage Manor in Beardstown.

She was born April 4, 1923, in Beardstown, a daughter of Walter and Lola Wight Phelps. She married Cecil H. Hood on Sept. 19, 1947, in Beardstown. He preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1994.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Rozelle “Rosie” Fore and Lamoine “Moine” Prochazka; and one brother, William “Bill” Phelps.

Surviving are one daughter, Lynn (and Chris) Trone of Rushville; three sons, Harold Hood of Rushville, James (and Linda) Hood of Concord, N.C., and Robert Hood of La Crosse, Wis.; one sister, Frances “Toad” Little of Washington, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Rushville First United Methodist Church.

Before her marriage, she worked as a telephone operator at Camp Ellis during World War II. She also was assigned as a phone operator during the Beardstown Illinois River flood in the spring of 1943. She later farmed with her husband and was a certified nurses aide at Culbertson Memorial Hospital for 17 years before retiring.

Services were held Monday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. James Hood and Rev. Grant Armstrong officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
