James E. Gain, 67, of Macomb, died at 2:35 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Astoria, a son of George Franklin and Nettie Johnson Gain. He married Anna Gruber Graham in 1951 in Glen Burnie Md. She survives.

Also surviving are one stepson, Edward Graham of Bloomington; two step-grandchildren, Douglas Graham of Bloomington and Michele Graham of Urbana; one brother, Philip Gain of Bear Lake, Calif.; and one sister, Patricia Schreiber of DeKalb.

He lived most of his life in Macomb moving there in 1937. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa School of Pharmacy. He owned and operated Gain Drugs in Macomb for many years and worked as a relief pharmacist in Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri after his retirement. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Macomb and a former member of the Macomb American Legion. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Services were held Saturday at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Rev. James Stovall officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Memorials may be made to the McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program.
