Banus C. Curless Of Peru Dies

Banus C. “Ben” Curless, 83, of 1617 8th Street, Peru, died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 1981, while driving a truck south of LaSalle.

Born Feb. 1, 1898, in Bluff City, a son of Elmer and Mary Jane Shaw Curless, he had been a Peru resident since 1949.

He operated Curless Buick and Pontiac in LaSalle until retiring in 1972. He started working for Buick Motor Co in 1925.

Mr. Curless was a 50-year member of Keyven Masonic Lodge of Chicago, Mohammed Temple Shrine of Peoria, and the Split Rock Rod and Gun Club.

Surviving are three grandsons, Dennis and Gary Curless of Belvidere, and Marc Curless of Coal Valley; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Verne Curless of Table Grove; and two sisters, Mrs. Ora Burdick of Assumption, and Mrs. Mettie Slaight of Havana.

He was preceded in death by one son, one sister, and two wives.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elias Funeral Chapel with Rev. H. Raymond Voss officiating. Burial was in Peru City Cemetery.
